Food is a key contributor to the climate crisis and the media can play an influential role in raising public awareness, but the coverage of food in climate media is woefully unrepresented.

For example, despite being responsible for 11-19% of global GHG emissions, only 7% of climate news mentions animal agriculture, and even then, rarely mentions climate impact.

Which is why we are absolutely thrilled to join forces with Green Queen Media to develop a strategic journalism fellowship to support better food and climate journalism in mainstream media. The Climate Feed Fellowship is part of Climate Feed, a new initiative focused on helping reporters better understand and communicate the vital link between food and climate change

The inaugural program, the Climate Feed Fellowship, aims to empower 6 emerging journalists with the tools and connections they need to fill this significant gap in coverage; not just on animal agriculture, but food security, food justice and food waste topics.

Rooted Research Collective’s multi-disciplinary team is leading on strategy, branding, programming and educational development tools in collaboration with Green Queen Media’s award-winning journalism team. During its 4-month duration, fellows will develop a key food/climate article with the support of 1-to-1 editor meetings, peer reviews and a series of panels featuring experts from the food and climate space.

With Green Queen Media’s journalism expertise and vast network, the fellows will have access to a wide audience and will benefit from the following coverage:

The next generation of climate journalists will play a pivotal role in raising awareness of the inextricable connection between climate and food systems, if they are given the tools to write a compelling yet credible narrative. We are proud to support them as they change the story, and with it, the future.
